Looking to learn the basics of the captivating world of fashion? The Cut offers you a variety of two-week intensive workshops designed to maximize your industry knowledge within a minimum time frame. In these hands-on workshops, students will be immersed in all facets of the fashion business. In readings, lectures and class discussions, students are taught by industry professionals in small group settings, receiving first-class learning in a real-life business environment, using state of the art digital platforms as well as hands-on hard skill applications. Each class comprises of two levels at 16 hours per week, for a total of 32 hours. Pre-requisites for each class are outlined in each specific course. Acquire the skills you need to reach your academic and professional goals or complement your current full-time diploma or degree program, or simply build a competitive portfolio for graduate program applications to prepare for advanced study.

PATTERN MAKING - COUTURE APPLICATIONS
In this two-week intensive, students will focus on the intricacies and techniques utilized in evening wear and bridal. Students will learn how to construct and manipulate fabrics utilizing a variety of specialty fabrics and finishes, including beading, lace work and tailoring. Pre-requisite: Successful completion of The Cut’s Patternmaking Basic Two-Week Intensive course, or equivalent. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of sewing is required.

PATTERN MAKING - BASICS
The Pattern Making Basics course introduces students to the standard principles of patternmaking. This introductory class teaches students the fundamentals of patternmaking with small class sizes to allow for individual attention. Students learn necessary specialized skills through hands-on training by highly qualified professors in an industry-level environment. Pre-requisite: Basic knowledge of sewing is required to understand how patterns are converted from paper to actual garments.

MARKETING & BRANDING
In this intensive hands-on 2 week course, you will understand the role of an effective Fashion Marketer. In the competitive fashion industry world, you need skills that speak to the consumer, whether you want to work for an established company or develop the “Brand of You”. Learn persuasive writing skills, public relations tactics, brand strategy, and social media know-how to effectively engage your target market. In today’s media-heavy environment, it’s essential you are able to communicate a brand’s DNA to their target consumer. Learn the skills necessary for success by working with industry professionals to gain entry into the creative and profitable business of fashion. Pre-requisite: A written Case Study submission on a fashion company (750 words); or 6-months of fashion marketing experience.

PATTERN MAKING - TECHNICAL APPAREL
In this two-week introductory course, you will learn how technical apparel is designed and manufactured. With a focus on pattern making that uses the technical and performance properties of various fabrics for specific end-uses such as sports, recreation, survival, and protection, you will be introduced to advanced patternmak- ing techniques geared to the outdoor sports enthusiasts. You will be introduced to new fibres, fabrics and trims, and learn how to apply specific technical construction techniques to build performance garments. Pre-requisite: Successful completion of The Cut’s Patternmaking Basic Two-Week Intensive course, or equivalent. Intermediate knowledge of sewing is required to understand how patterns are converted from paper to actual garments.

DIGITAL PATTERN MAKING - GERBER
This two-week introductory course examines the digital aspect of pattern making and grading using Gerber AccuMark Pattern Design software (V10). Under the guidance of industry professionals, students will receive hands-on instruction covering pattern creation, drafting, digitizing, plotting, knock offs, data conversion, technical specification sheets, and costing of markers. Pre-requisite: Successful completion of The Cut’s Patternmaking Basic Two-Week Intensive course, or equivalent. Basic knowledge of sewing is required to understand how patterns are converted from paper to actual garments.
