During this 8 week Product Development course, students will gain insight into the world of product development and understand what it takes to bring product to life. Students learn how to:

Break down each element in a garment
The roles of the fashion industry
Review domestic and offshore manufacturing
Understand how to prepare a GTM calendar
Determine textiles
Source fabrics
Create production quotes
Colour match
Build a BOM
Create a technical specification package

Five projects will be worked on throughout the course. These projects include:

Textile book
Spec Drawing
BOM
Fit review
Cost sheet

Schedule: Classes run once per week, same day and time, for the duration of the course

Class Capacity: 6 students only

Instructor: Cara Sumpton

Cara’s experience spans over 10 years in sustainable sports-wear where she has worked at companies like Lululemon and Arc’teryx while launching her own design and development company in 2015 which is now Apparelmark. Cara’s global recognition can be attributed to her specific experience, hard work ethic and eye for design.

Liza D.

Instructor: Liza Deyrmenjian

Liza D. has helped hundreds of fashion and lifestyle entrepreneurs build million dollar businesses, many of which have been featured in major publications and on national television shows such as Oprah and Good Morning America. Liza knows how to get things done and make things happen.

Taranjit (Taran) Cheema is a Canadian-born designer who has a strong eye for colours and graphics. She explores mix media and always strives to create unique and inspirational pieces.

Taran Cheema graduated from Parsons The New School for Design, in New York City, with a Bachelor in Fine Arts. In May 2013, she exhibited her thesis collection at the prestigious Parsons 560 Exhibition and the Parsons Benefit Gala. Within her graduating class, she was among a few students who received a high score on her thesis collection.
