Sewing fundamentals is the goal here. Students are taught to construct garments by learning basic sewing stitches and seam finishing techniques. Youth are welcome to take this course.

During this eight-week beginner sewing course, students are taught to construct garments by learning basic sewing stitches and seam finishing techniques.

Five projects will be worked on throughout the course. These projects include:

  • Sewing sample book
  • Tote bag
  • Cushion cover with zipper
  • Sweatshirt
  • Sleeveless woven top (choose from one of two styles)

The instructor will work with each student based on personal skill level and preferred pace.

Class Details

Start Dates (choose your preferred start date):

  • Tuesday, May 1
  • Saturday, May 5
  • Tuesday, July 17
  • Saturday, July 21

Length:  8 weeks

Time: 4-6PM or 6-8PM or 3-5PM

Schedule: Classes run once per week, same day and time, for the duration of the course

Class Capacity: 6 students only

Price: $525.00 + GST

Age Range: Youth are welcome to take this course. Must be 8+ years of age.

Students will receive an official certificate from The Cutting Room upon completion of this course.

If there is 2 or less students registered for the class, the class will be considered a private class. Students will complete all assignments as listed, in a 6 week period instead of 8 weeks.

Instructor: Quyem Lam

Quyem Lam has sewn professionally for over 40 years. She has worked for some of the leading labels in North America including Umbro, Intrawest, Nicole Bridger, Sitka and more. Quyem can teach anyone to sew. Plus, she’s a lot of fun! Learn invaluable tips and tricks, how to sew like a professional as well as how to read patterns from the best sewer around.

 

Kayla Garcia is currently completing a two-year intensive Fashion Design Diploma in Visual College of Art and Design. She’s a dedicated individual, she volunteered and now doing an internship for local designers and fashion shows to get her on-hand in the industry. Kayla also has an exacting eye for details in technical and production, that leads her to advance sewing and drafting skills. She loves the concept of having an idea in your mind and putting into production.
